BSES
In 2003, the Bureau of Sugar Experiment Stations became the company BSES Limited. BSES is the principal provider of research, development and extension to the Australian sugar industry.
BSES works closely with Australian sugarcane growers, millers, harvest contractors and government to find ways to make sugarcane production more profitable and environmentally sustainable.
BSES staff include scientists, engineers, field officers and administrators who work together to ensure that Australian sugar cane remains a valuable and viable commodity.
BSES studies and works on improving sugar cane yield and sugar content (98% of the sugarcane grown in Queensland is of a "Q" variety bred by BSES); crop management (farm efficiency, pest and disease management, irrigation); harvesting and mechanisation enhancement; product and process improvement; laboratory analytical support; and customer service for the industry (training and information programs).
